Step-1 HP Envy 5540 Unboxing

  • First, open the cardboard box containing the HP printer and remove the ink cartridges, setup guides, and power cord.
  • You will learn how to download and install the software drivers from 123.hp.com/setup 5540 using the setup guides.
  • Then, take out the installation CDs, and the ink caution sheet. Make sure to follow all the instructions on the ink caution sheet.
  • Next, take out the packing material from the top of the printer and lay it on the table.
  • Then, gently pull the printer out of the box and keep the box aside.
  • Now, remove the styrofoam caps on either side of the printer.
  • Next, take out the printer from the plastic bag and peel away the blue tapes on the printer’s surface.
  • Now, remove all the transparent filmsthat are on the reflective surfaces. Then, remove the sticker on the display panel.
  • Open the scanner glass lid and remove the packing material on the scanner glass. Once you’ve removed the sheet placed there, close the scanner glass lid.
  • Then, open the ink cartridge access area and check for packaging materials. If you find any packaging materials, remove them.
  • Lastly, open the Paper Input Tray in the front of the printer and remove the tapes on it. Also, remove any other packaging materials that may be present in the tray.

Step-2 HP Envy 5540 Printer Initialization

  • First, you must switch on your HP Envy 5540 printer so that you can install the ink cartridges.
  • First, remove the power cord that you set aside along with the Setup guide.
  • Next, plug in one end of the power cord into the power port located at the rear of your printer.
  • Then, connect the other end of the power cord into the wall outlet.
  • Now, press the power button to switch on the printer.
  • The printer will go through an initialization process. You’ll see the HP logo on the control panel.
  • Next, the your HP Envy 5540 printer will ask you to choose your language. Select the language of your choice.
  • Now, click “Yes” on the next screen to confirm your language.

Step-3 HP Envy 5540 Installing Ink Cartridges

Using the cutouts on either side of the printer box, open the ink cartridge access area. Now, remove the wrapper from the black cartridge. Then, peel away the transparent film on the copper-colored contacts. Now, slide the cartridge into the slot until it clicks into place. Similarly, insert the remaining tri-colour cartridge into the ink slot. Close the ink cartridge access area when you’re done. Lastly, tap OK on the control panel to continue.

Now, the printer will ask you to load unused paper into the Paper Tray.

Step-4 HP Envy 5540 Loading Plain Paper

  • First, take a stack of plain A4 sheets and align them. Don’t use coloured sheets for this process.
  • Now, open the Paper Input Tray and slide the Paper width guides away from each other to the extreme ends.
  • Next, insert the aligned stack of plain sheets into the Paper Tray.
  • Once you’ve inserted the papers into the Input Tray, adjust the paper width guides such that they touch the edges of the sheets.
  • Next, push the Paper Input Tray inside.
  • Then, touch OK and Done. The printer will start calibrating and print out an alignment page.
  • Next, open the scanner glass lid and place the alignment page print-side down on the scanner glass surface to scan it.
  • When the alignment is completed successfully, you’ll see an alignment successful message on the control panel. In case alignment wasn’t successful, you can contact us to fix the issue.

Once you’ve selected Manual Setup, the control panel will ask you if you want a “No Network Process” or “Network process”.

If you want to connect your printer Wirelessly, choose the Network process. If you want to connect your printer with a USB connection, choose the No Network option.

Step-5 HP Envy 5540 Wireless Wizard

  • Once you’ve selected the Network option in the Manual Setup, your Envy 5540 printer automatically starts searching for Wireless networks within range.
  • Now, touch the name of the network that you wish to connect your printer. Your system must also be connected to the same network that you’re connecting your printer to.
  • Next, enter the password for your Wireless Network using the touchscreen. 
  • Once you’ve entered the password, tap Done.
  • If your printer successfully connects to your network, a connection successful message displays on the printer control panel.

Step-6 HP Envy 5540 Software Driver Installation

    • First, switch on your computer and make sure that it is connected to the same network as your printer.

    • Click the download button and wait for the HP Easy Utility software to download.
    • Once the software download is complete, click on the software in the browser download bar to open it.
    • When the HP Easy Start Utility is opened, you’ll see a list of software that will be installed.

Take care to not hold the papers tightly.  Next, open the photo that you want to print. For instructional purposes, we’re using Microsoft Photos Viewer as an example. Then, click Print button on the top bar. You’ll see a drop-down menu which will let you choose the name of your printer, paper size, and print quality.   • First, open the scanner glass lid and load the document that you wish to copy, print-side down on the scanner glass.
  • Next, touch the Copy button. 
  • If you don’t wish to copy on both sides, turn off the two-sided options in the menu.

  • Next, tap the Back icon to return to the copy menu.
